What is Classical Homeopathy?

Classical homeopathy is a 225-year-old complete system of medicine developed by Samuel Hahnemann, which means it has its own philosophy, its own understanding of disease, and its own set of therapeutic practices. It operates on four main principles: similarity, totality, individuality, and minimum dose. Similarity means finding a remedy that echoes a similar pattern of imbalance within the client. Totality means that I look at the whole picture, not just one or two symptoms. Individuality means everything is tailored to each individual client. Minimum dose means one remedy at a time at the lowest potency and lowest frequency possible for each case. There are 200+ years of clinical evidence and an ever-growing body of research from the Homeopathy Research Institute and other scientists and practitioners around the world that show that homeopathy is both safe and effective. It is used by 500 million people worldwide and is a federally-recognized system of medicine.

What are the remedies made out of?

Homeopathic remedies are NOT herbal supplements. They are made from highly diluted substances found in nature, including animals, plants, and minerals. There are over 8000 remedies in the Homeopathic Pharmacopeia, which gives a lot of options for individualization in each unique case. The remedies are so dilute that any toxicity is removed from them, and to ensure safety in manufacturing, the Homeopathic Pharmacopeia of the United States (HPUS) sets standards by which remedies are made.

Can I use homeopathy with other treatments?

Yes, homeopathy can almost always be safely used alongside both conventional and alternative treatments. If you are currently on medication, it is important that you continue to follow your physician's advise while working with me. I am not a licensed medical professional, so I cannot give any advise about medication. I have found that clients are sometimes eventually able to discontinue medication or lessen their dosage upon their physician's recommendations as a result of undergoing homeopathic care.

How long will I be under your care?

How does homeopathy work?

The most common answer in homeopathy is, "It depends," which can be frustrating to hear at times! Chronic conditions often take time and multiple remedies (though one at a time) to unravel. It takes time for chronic conditions to develop, so it naturally takes time for them to resolve. Homeopathy is incredibly gentle and does not force a process until it's ready to be moved. There is usually at least a one-year investment. At the beginning, follow-up appointments are more frequent (once per month), but as your health improves, they are spaced further and further apart. My goal as a homeopath is always to work myself out of a job--I want to see you find your way back to health so that you no longer need me!

Homeopathy works by strengthening your own vitality and constitution. Once a remedy is recommended for you after your initial consultation, you will begin to take the remedy at a recommended potency and interval. This remedy will not work by a chemical process that we are used to in conventional medicine. Rather, remedies introduce a resonance (hence the principle of similarity) that stimulates your body to do its own healing at its own pace. Our bodies are naturally designed to do their own healing, but because of various inherited and environmental factors, we often get "stuck," and our bodies develop symptoms as a result. Homeopathic remedies help our bodies get unstuck by introducing resonant reminders to heal and resolve the presenting symptoms.

What can I expect at the initial consultation?

The initial consultation will last 90-120 minutes (sometimes a little longer). We will go over your current concerns as well as health and family history. Homeopaths love details, so the more specific you can be about your symptoms, the better. If you have migraines, for example, it is helpful for me to hear how you experience them: where in the head do you feel the pain, what is the quality of the pain (throbbing, stabbing, pressing, etc.), what makes it better (lying in a dark room, going outside for fresh air, etc.) or worse (light, noise, bending forward, etc.). I will ask you questions that are directly related to your symptoms, but also some that are seemingly unrelated. In homeopathy, no detail is too small or insignificant. We will discuss your physical, mental, and emotional picture, as the total picture will guide me to the most appropriate remedy for you.

What happens after the initial consultation?

After your consultation, I take up to a week to analyze your case and recommend the most fitting remedy for you. I will send you an email with your remedy recommendation, a link to order it, and instructions for taking it. I will check in with you 7-10 days after you've begun taking your remedy and make adjustments, if necessary. A month after you begin taking your remedy, we will have our first follow-up where I will analyze your remedy response and make the next recommendation. It is recommended that you have a follow-up every 4-6 weeks so we can go over your progress together. Sometimes there are big changes right away, but most of the time, homeopathic care is marked by subtle and steady progress. The goal is, of course, to keep you moving toward health and a resolution of your symptoms. Follow-ups are a necessary part of this.
